Welcome and Prayer

L: We begin this hour of worship in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

L: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

All: Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves.

We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Assurance of Forgiveness

P: In the mercy of Almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake God forgives you all your sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen

Opening Hymn - There is a Balm in Gilead

There is a balm in Gilead

to make the wounded whole

There is a balm in Gilead

to heal the sin-sick soul

Sometimes I feel discouraged

and think my works’s in vain

But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again

There is a balm in Gilead

to make the wounded whole

There is a balm in Gilead

to heal the sin-sick soul

If you cannot preach like Peter,

if you cannot pray like Paul

You can tell the love of Jesus

and say, “He died for all”

There is a balm in Gilead

to make the wounded whole

There is a balm in Gilead

to heal the sin-sick soul

Don’t ever be discouraged

for Jesus is your friend
And if you lack for knowledge

he’ll ne’er refuse to lend

There is a balm in Gilead

to make the wounded whole

There is a balm in Gilead

to heal the sin-sick soul

Prayer Of The Day

L: The Lord be with you.

ALL: And also with you.

L: Let us pray together.

ALL: Gracious God, Help us to open our eyes today. Teach us to see hope in the world. Encourage us to be a church of love and grace, and bless us with your love.

L: In Jesus’ powerful name we pray,

ALL: Amen.

First Lesson - Esther 3:1 and 8-9

After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hamme- datha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles. Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain people dispersed and scattered among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom whose customs are different from those of all other people and who do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will put ten thousand talents of silver into the royal treasury for the men who carry out this business.”

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia Alleluia, Alleluia!

Alleluia Alleluia, Alleluia!

Gospel - Matthew 5:22 and 23-25

Jesus said, “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with another person will be subject to judgment. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to that person; then come and offer your gift. Settle matters quickly with your adversary...”

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God

the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen

HYMN - Lift Every Voice & Sing

Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise,
High as the list’ning skies, let it resound loud as the rolling sea Sing a song full of faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun

of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by thy might,
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee, Shadowed beneath the hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land.

Prayers Of The Church

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Blessing for the Journey

Closing Hymn

Precious Lord, Take My Hand

Precious Lord take my hand,

lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night,

lead me on to the light Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home

When my way grows drear, precious Lord, linger near When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call, hold my hand,

lest I fall Take my hand, precious Lord,

lead me home

When the darkness appears and the night draws near

And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand, guide my feet,

hold my hand
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home
